How We Can Help

We’re on a mission and we love that you have opened this door to join us.

Our whole purpose for being is to unlock hope for those living with OCD – to help them break free from the debilitating effects of this chronic mental health disorder that is often under-diagnosed, misunderstood, life-threatening and definitely lacking effective treatment in Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ).

You’ve heard the heart-breaking stories about people struggling to live life with OCD, the lack of treatment and no foreseeable road to recovery, so hopefully it comes as no surprise that our first cab off the rank is to help establish a proven treatment programme right here in NZ.

And you know what?  It’s happening! Yes, the door is finally opening!

We’ve all been told ‘if it’s too good to be true’, then that is probably the case, but in this instance, it is so good for this to be true.

The story starts back in 2011 in Norway with Professor Gerd Kvale and Dr Bjarne Hansen, dedicated clinicians and researchers who joined together with the same goal for those living with severe OCD: to improve treatment and create an evidence-based programme that could be disseminated worldwide.

By 2018, these two incredible Norwegians had accomplished what they set out to do – they created the Bergen 4 Day Treatment (B4DT) and were named as two of Time Magazine’s 50 most influential people in health care, with the programme being considered one of the most successful intervention models in treating severe OCD.

You can find out more about B4DT on the International OCD Foundation website:

Fast forward to today and the B4DT programme is in more than 60 countries and the incredible Bergen team is partnering with us to bring the B4DT programme here!

And again, it isn’t an ‘if’ but a ‘when’ and that when is AUGUST 2025!

The Bergen team believes so strongly that this programme should be available everywhere in the world that they and their amazing funder, the Kavli Trust, are taking five of our NZ psychologists over to Singapore for two weeks of intensive training in the B4DT programme in August this year.

And so it begins. Our five psychologists return from Singapore as certified B4DT therapists and in 2026, they will be joined by the Bergen team lead experts, to facilitate our very first B4DT programme for New Zealanders living with severe OCD.

We are beyond excited in the knowledge this is going to be a life-changing experience for so many.

In March 2025, team Bergen hosted a webinar for New Zealand clinicians to explain how their treatment model works. You can watch it here:
